Joe Cassidy will be cooking up a storm in Broadway's Waitress. The Main Stem alum is set to take on the role of Cal, the curmudgeonly diner chef, from this January through February 12. He fills in while original star Eric Anderson takes a temporary leave for a film commitment.
Cassidy’s Broadway credits include If/then, Catch Me If You Can, Next To Normal, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Les Miserables, 1776 and Show Boat. On screen he has been seen in Blue Bloods, Elementary, Law & Order and Submissions Only.
Directed by Diane Paulus, Waitress marks five-time Grammy nominee Sara Bareilles' stage-writing debut. Based on the 2007 film by the late Adrienne Shelly and book by Jessie Nelson, the tuner follows Jenna, a small town waitress stuck in a loveless marriage. As a nearby baking contest approaches (and a new doctor comes to town), she’s torn between her commitments and—thanks to her pie-making expertise—a chance at freedom.
The cast at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre also includes Jessie Mueller (through March 26), Charity Angél Dawson, Christopher Fitzgerald, Drew Gehling, Caitlin Houlahan, Dakin Matthews and William Popp.
